CONCEPT

My goal is to create a way to visualize identities using people's voices in a way that could be recognizable as a personal mark .The usage of voice as a source of personal data that can build a "new visual signature". Underlying the process and action of how diverse identities can also create a sense of collective unity.

ABSTRACT

Ego is an audiovisual installation that transforms people’s voices into a living, collective and ephemeral “monument”. It translates the gesture of their voices into new audiovisual registers of the event. Each “signature” has a time span of 24 hours with a fade out of 20 min, transforming and altering the output constantly. Ego takes the idea of the monument of the XIX century as a singular, static and narrative representation of heroes, important people or the government, and re-appropriates it into a collective, dynamic, democratic and horizontal representation of regular people.

The technical aspects of this project consist in a software application built in OpenFrameworks and a screen installation embedded into a structure with four speakers and a kiosk with a directional microphone. Each user “sign” his name with his voice, creating a new visual output that becomes part of this dynamic representation of people.
